Snapchat Planets: What They Mean and How They Work

Snapchat planets are part of Snapchat+’s Friend Solar System feature. They show your position among another person’s Best Friends on Snapchat. Instead of simply showing a ranking number, Snapchat uses planets to make the feature feel like a small solar system. Each planet represents one position, from the closest friend to the eighth closest friend. The feature is available through Snapchat+, and Snapchat says Best Friends are the eight people you Snap and Chat with most. Understanding Snapchat planets is useful if you have seen a planet next to a friend’s profile and wondered what it means.

The Friend Solar System can be especially interesting for people who use Snapchat regularly. However, the planets are not astrology signs, and they do not describe your personality. They represent a position in another person’s Snapchat Best Friends list. Snapchat’s official support guide lists eight planets: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. The order matters because Mercury represents the first position, while Neptune represents the eighth. This guide explains the Snapchat planets meaning, how to check your planet, what each position means, and why your planet can change over time.

What Are Snapchat Planets?

Snapchat planets are visual symbols used in the Friend Solar System. The feature turns a person’s Best Friends list into a simple solar-system style display. If you are one of someone’s eight Best Friends, Snapchat can assign you a planet based on your position on that list. Mercury represents the first position, Venus represents the second, and the sequence continues through Neptune in eighth place. Therefore, seeing a planet does not mean Snapchat is judging your friendship. It simply shows where your interactions currently place you within that friend’s Best Friends group.

The system is designed around Snapchat activity rather than a permanent friendship label. Snapchat explains that Best Friends are people you send one-to-one Snaps and Chats to most frequently and recently. Because communication patterns change, your position can also change. For example, someone who is currently your closest Snapchat contact may appear as Mercury, while another friend could appear as Jupiter. If your activity changes, their positions may change too. This makes Snapchat planets more like a snapshot of interaction than a permanent ranking of personal relationships.

Snapchat Planets in Order

The Snapchat planets order is based on eight positions in the Friend Solar System. Mercury is first, followed by Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. In simple terms, the closer the planet is to the beginning of this sequence, the higher the person’s position on the Best Friends list. Snapchat officially identifies these eight planets in its Friend Solar System guide.

This chart makes the Snapchat planets meaning easier to understand. If someone is Mercury in your Friend Solar System, they currently occupy the first position among your eight Best Friends. If someone is Neptune, they occupy the eighth position. These positions should not be treated as permanent because Snapchat activity can change. The system also does not mean that a Mercury friend is necessarily your closest friend in real life. It reflects Snapchat interaction patterns rather than the full quality or history of a friendship.

What Does Each Snapchat Planet Mean?

Mercury represents the first position in the Friend Solar System. It means that the person is currently number one among the eight Best Friends shown by the feature. Venus represents the second position, while Earth represents the third. Mars represents the fourth position. These planet names are simply labels for different positions. They are not personality descriptions, relationship types, or compatibility scores. So, if someone tells you that you are their Mercury, the practical meaning is that you currently occupy the first position in their Snapchat Best Friends list.

Jupiter represents the fifth position, followed by Saturn in sixth place. Uranus represents seventh place, while Neptune represents eighth place. This means the planet sequence provides a quick visual way to understand where a friend appears within the eight-person Best Friends group. The feature does not provide a detailed explanation of why a person holds a particular position. Instead, it reflects Snapchat’s Best Friends system, which is influenced by how people communicate through Snaps and Chats. How to Check Your Snapchat Planet

To check your Snapchat planet, you need access to the Friend Solar System feature through Snapchat+. Snapchat says subscribers can see a Best Friends badge with a gold ring on a person’s Friendship Profile. Tapping that badge can show which planet you represent in that person’s Solar System. The planet tells you your position among that person’s eight Best Friends. This is different from simply looking at your regular friend list because the Solar System focuses specifically on the Best Friends positions represented by the eight planets.

If you are a first-time Snapchat+ subscriber, the Solar System feature may be turned off by default. Snapchat’s support page says you can visit the Snapchat+ feature management page and turn Solar System on. You can also switch it off again whenever you want. If the option does not appear, updating Snapchat may help because Snapchat recommends using the latest app version when features do not work as expected. Availability and feature behavior can also change as Snapchat updates the service.

Why Your Snapchat Planet Can Change

Your Snapchat planet can change because your Best Friends positions can change. Snapchat says Best Friends are based on the people you Snap and Chat with most frequently and recently. This means increased activity with one person can affect the positions shown in your Friend Solar System. For example, if you previously interacted most with one friend but later started Snapping another person more often, their positions may change. As a result, a friend who was previously Mercury could move to another position, while someone else could take the Mercury position.

It is important not to treat these changes as a complete measurement of friendship. Snapchat planets reflect activity inside Snapchat, not everything that happens between people offline. Someone may be a close real-life friend but have a lower planet position simply because you communicate through another app or meet in person. Likewise, frequent Snaps do not automatically explain the entire nature of a relationship. The safest way to understand the feature is to view it as an activity-based indicator within Snapchat. Snapchat Planets vs. Snapchat Astrology

Some users search for Snapchat planets because they are interested in astrology. However, the Friend Solar System and Snapchat’s Astrological Profile are different features. The Friend Solar System uses eight planets to represent positions among Best Friends. Snapchat’s Astrological Profile is a separate feature that covers ten celestial bodies, including the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune, Pluto, and Uranus. It uses birth information such as your birthday, birth time, and birthplace.

This difference is important when searching for Snapchat planets meaning online. If you are looking at a planet connected to a Friendship Profile, you are likely seeing the Friend Solar System. If you are viewing an astrology profile, the planets have a completely different purpose. The Friend Solar System is about Snapchat friendship positions, while the Astrological Profile is designed around astrology. Snapchat describes its astrology feature as a way to reflect and start conversations about yourself and friendships. Therefore, the two features should not be confused.

Is the Snapchat Planet Ranking Permanent?

No, a Snapchat planet position should not be considered permanent. Snapchat’s Best Friends can change over time based on how you communicate with people. The company explains that Best Friends are connected to frequent and recent one-to-one Snaps and Chats. Because your activity can change from day to day, the people and positions represented by the Friend Solar System can change as well. A planet therefore represents a current position rather than a lifelong friendship status.

For example, imagine that you frequently Snap one friend during the week. That person may appear closer to Mercury in your Solar System. Later, you may begin chatting and exchanging Snaps more often with another friend. The positions can then change as your activity changes. This does not necessarily mean that one friendship became more important in real life. It only shows that Snapchat’s interaction-based system has changed. Keeping this distinction in mind can prevent misunderstandings when you notice a different Snapchat planet next to a friend.

Are Snapchat Planets Available to Everyone?

The Friend Solar System is connected to Snapchat+, so it is not simply a standard feature available to every Snapchat account. Snapchat’s official support information describes Solar System as a Snapchat+ feature. For first-time Snapchat+ subscribers, the feature is off by default and must be enabled through the Snapchat+ feature management settings. This means that someone may have Snapchat+ but still not see the Solar System until the feature is switched on.

If you cannot find Snapchat planets, first check whether your account has Snapchat+ and whether Solar System is enabled. You should also make sure that your Snapchat app is updated. Snapchat recommends updating the app when a feature is not working as expected. Restarting the app or device and checking your internet connection are also basic troubleshooting steps suggested by Snapchat Support. Feature availability can change, so the exact menus may look different after future app updates.

Frequently Asked Questions About Snapchat Planets

What is the closest planet on Snapchat?

Mercury is the first position in Snapchat’s Friend Solar System. If you appear as Mercury for someone, you currently occupy the first position among their eight Best Friends represented by the Solar System. It does not necessarily mean you are their closest friend outside Snapchat because the system reflects Snapchat activity.

What does Venus mean on Snapchat?

Venus represents the second position in the Friend Solar System. If you appear as Venus, you are currently second among the eight Best Friends represented by that person’s Solar System. The planet does not describe your personality or relationship. It is simply a visual way to represent your position.

What does Neptune mean on Snapchat?

Neptune represents the eighth position in Snapchat’s Friend Solar System. It is the final planet in the eight-position sequence. Being Neptune means you currently hold the eighth position among that person’s Best Friends shown through the feature. Your position can change when Snapchat interaction patterns change.

Do Snapchat planets change?

Yes, Snapchat planet positions can change. Best Friends are connected to how frequently and recently people communicate through Snaps and Chats. When your activity changes, the Best Friends list can change too. Therefore, the planet connected to a particular friend may also move to a different position.

Can I turn off the Snapchat Solar System?

Yes. Snapchat says the Solar System feature can be turned on or off through Snapchat+ feature management. It is off by default for first-time subscribers. If you prefer not to use the feature, you can leave it disabled. Snapchat may adjust settings or menus as the app develops.

Conclusion: Understanding Snapchat Planets

Snapchat planets provide a simple way to understand your position within another person’s Snapchat Best Friends list. The Friend Solar System uses eight planets, beginning with Mercury and ending with Neptune. Each planet represents one position among the eight Best Friends. The system is connected to Snapchat+ and can be enabled or disabled through its feature settings.

The most important point is that Snapchat planets reflect Snapchat interaction, not the complete meaning of a friendship. Best Friends can change because communication patterns change over time. Therefore, a planet should be viewed as a current Snapchat position rather than a permanent relationship label. If you want to understand the feature better, remember the simple order: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. This makes the Friend Solar System much easier to read and understand.
